My name is Vinci, and I am a sweet, eight year old neutered male Vizsla looking for a very special forever home.

I was originally used as a stud dog before being adopted at age five. Shortly after joining my first family, I went missing for eight days after slipping my collar. That experience left me with significant anxiety and what has been described as PTSD. For a long time, the outside world felt very overwhelming; I found comfort staying in my "safe place" in a quiet closet and struggled with house training due to my fears.

With guidance from TBVC Rescue and my veterinarian, I have started supplements and medication that have helped tremendously with my progress. While my previous family loves me dearly, their busy household with four children made it difficult to provide the focused environment I need to continue building my confidence.

I am looking for an experienced owner who can devote plenty of time and patience to my ongoing journey. I would do best in a calm, quiet home—preferably without children—where I can be the primary focus. I am a very affectionate dog and, with the right person, I know I can continue to heal.

If you have the heart and the home to help a resilient boy like me, please email Nicole at tbvcrescue@gmail.com if you already have an application on File, or click on the Adoption Application tab on the menu above to fill out an application.

Finding a Vizsla: What You Need to Know

Vizslas are a beloved but less common breed. Because of their loyal temperament, intelligence, and beauty, demand for Vizslas often exceeds availability—especially in rescue. This is wonderful for the breed but can mean a longer wait for families hoping to adopt, particularly if they are looking for specific qualities such as age, sex, or temperament.

If you’re waiting to adopt a Vizsla, please be patient and keep an eye on our  Facebook page

and this website for updates on available dogs. We appreciate your dedication and understand how important this journey is for your family.

Considering a Vizsla Puppy? Please Read First.

If you’re considering purchasing a Vizsla puppy, it’s vital to do your homework. Unfortunately, not all sources have the best interest of the dogs—or the families—in mind.

Avoid pet stores: These often source from puppy mills, which are known for poor breeding practices that can lead to serious health and temperament issues.

Be wary of high-volume breeders (“greeders”): These operations prioritize profit over the well-being of their dogs, often breeding the same dogs repeatedly with little regard for genetics, health, or temperament.

Watch out for scammers: Online platforms like Craigslist are notorious for fraudulent puppy listings. Sadly, we’ve seen dogs from these sources with serious health and behavioral issues, including:

• Hip dysplasia

• Epilepsy

• Autoimmune disorders

• Aggression

Where to Find a Responsibly Bred Vizsla

While the AKC Marketplace includes many reputable breeders, it is a paid listing site—so caution is still required. Always do your due diligence.

Trusted resources for finding responsibly bred Vizslas include:

• Tampa Bay Vizsla Club — Contact Tracie Carlson traciecarlson@aol.com for breeder referrals.

• Vizsla Club of America (VCA) — Offers both breeder and regional rescue referrals.

A responsible breeder is dedicated to producing stable, healthy puppies from equally stable, healthy parents. They often demonstrate this by:

• Participating in performance and working events like conformation, hunt tests, field trials, obedience, rally, agility, or therapy work.

• Completing health clearances for genetic and breed-specific conditions.

You can verify health testing through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), which offers public access to health clearances.

Click here for the list of tests recommended for Vizslas.

Choosing the right Vizsla—whether through rescue or a responsible breeder—takes time, but it’s worth the wait. Thank you for caring enough to make informed, ethical choices.
